Mission Statement
As I look back at my life, one the best things I ever did was to learn to play guitar. It's fair to say that music underscores my life in every way and being able to play an instrument, particularly the guitar has brought me immense happiness and satisfaction. When I became a college lecturer in the early 2000's, I wanted to transmit all my experience and knowledge to whoever wanted it. Usually young people. I have a desire to know and to create. I also have a desire to help others do the same.
Now I am a guitar tutor and I want to help others find their own path to musical and personal satisfaction and creative happiness. So many forms of education these days are fraught with a stiff and unresponsive approach to the transmission of knowledge and skills. People are put into boxes, or forced along a course that has been designed to get students to hit targets that unlock finance rather than actually help the students achieve what they want to achieve. Just think round pegs being forced into square holes! My approach is to teach the student what it is they want to know. Not follow a generic pattern. Everyone is different, the way they progress is different, what they want to learn is different. So what I do is to work with the guitar student and put together an individual course for them to follow which takes into account their own needs, wants and abilities. Music is personal, music is emotional. Everyone has their own way with it. I help them find it!
